We Yacht Brokers are very knowledgeable on promoting the lifestyle benefits of boat ownership. And those of us Yacht Brokers that actually own a yacht have a distinct advantage. But what we do not particularly like, are the difficulties associated with marketing a boat in a down market; it’s brutal to say the least. But it must be done.
A boat, like cars and houses, takes a beating in a down economy. Values can plummet overnight simply as a result of supply and demand. If you find yourself in these circumstances of wanting or needing to sell your yacht, you will appreciate the circumstances. All at once it appears that there are many despairing boat owners, all of whom seem to have a vessel better than yours, at a lower price than you are prepared to accept.
At the same time there seems to be fewer genuine boat Buyers. Those Buyers that are out there are looking for a better-than-good-deal. It seems that the only way to sell a boat is for the seller to take a beating and make the sale at a considerable loss. The irony is that very often, that loss is needless. To a considerable extent, those losses in the boat marketplace are often attributable to the Seller's lack of preparedness. Let me elaborate with several points.
